eDrive is capable of retrieving Point Object values via simple web services hosted by a wide range of devices and network services. eDrive is compatible with web services that reply in either XML or JSON format.
Web Service Device Configuration Parameters:
Device Name
Enter a descriptive name that eDrive will use to reference this web service as an eDrive device. Spaces and punctuation characters are allowed.
Device Type
From the drop down list, select the option: Web Service.
Polling Timeout
From the drop down list, select the value (in seconds) that will determine how long eDrive will wait for responses from this web service provider before declaring a timeout event and moving on to its next task.
The intent of the timeout period is to allow enough time for the service to fully respond to requests from eDrive, but also allow eDrive to move on to other tasks if the service does not reply in time or responds with errors.
URL
Enter the full URL (Universal Resource Locator) for the web service being polled.
If the web service provider requires user account authentication, enter the account user name here. Leave blank if none is required.
Password
If the web service provider requires user account authentication, enter the account password here. Leave blank if none is required.
Target Interval
Enter the value (in seconds) that represents how often this web service will be requested.
Web Service Point Object Configuration Parameters:
All objects returned in the web service response will be shown in the tree listing at the right margin of the page. Add Point Objects to this web service device by drag and drop operation to the Point Object list at the center of the page.
By holding down the CTRL key while selecting objects from the web service response tree, you can select multiple objects for drag and drop operation at the same time.
Once Point Objects are added to the list at the center of the page, you may elect to modify the Name property of any Point Object.
Name
Enter a descriptive name that eDrive will use to reference this Point Object. Spaces and punctuation characters are allowed.
If '/' (forward slash) characters are included in the name, eDrive will create the Point Object in a hierarchical, tree structure with the '/' characters as delimiters. The tree structure will appear in the list of eDrive objects along the right hand side of the page.
Note! You can assign Additional Properties to any Point Object such as Offset, scaling Multiplier, History, etc. Please refer to the Additional Point Properties section for more detail.
When Device and/or Point Object configuration is complete, select the Submit Config function to save your changes to eDrive.
