Florida Blue

Florida Blue Facilities State Wide

Florida Blue is the oldest and largest health plan provider in the state, with more than 4.2 million health plan members. The company’s Jacksonville headquarters has continually grown to meet its needs.

Objective

Responding to growing demand for more building space, Florida Blue had over the years added facilities for administration, processing, customer service, and data management. For its new data center, Florida Blue wanted to ensure reliability and zero downtime to meet critical operating demands.

Solution

Facility Automation Solutions engineered and installed a system that could meet the critical operating and reliability demands of the data center, which included fully redundant systems for power, HVAC and data equipment, as well as a chilled water storage tank designed to provide an uninterrupted source of cooling during equipment transitions. The Schneider Electric Controls System utilized native FAS integration communications protocol to meet the requirements for an “open” system.

The FAS integration capabilities were key to incorporating third-party HVAC equipment directly into the building management system. Integrated communications were provided to Liebert CRAC units and to York Chillers.

Results

The solution provided a single system that consolidated all critical information for the data center. In addition, Facility Automation Solutions helped Florida Blue achieve significant cost benefits by integrating non-uniform facility management systems at the company’s multiple campuses onto a single platform for centralized management.
